On 2 September 2021, five members of the South Korean group Enhypen tested positive for COVID-19. Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon and Jungwon were all confirmed on the same day, just weeks after their label had promised a comeback for late September. The news hit like a wall because Enhypen were about to release Dimension: Dilemma, their first studio album, and everything now hung on whether they could recover in time. Enhypen released Dimension: Dilemma on October 12, 2021.

Building the debut album

The group had been building toward this record since their debut. Dimension: Dilemma was announced as a full-length project spanning eight tracks, with the lead single "Tamed-Dashed" at its centre. The music pulled from EDM, R&B, hip-hop, pop-rock, alternative rock and electro-funk, a wide net that matched the ambition of a rookie act trying to prove it could carry a whole album rather than just a hit single.

A week before the positive tests, Belift Lab had confirmed Enhypen would return at the end of September. That plan collapsed. Instead, the label waited until 16 September to announce that all the members had recovered and that the album would arrive on 12 October 2021. The delay had cost them their original schedule, but it also gave the release a new kind of tension: fans had watched the group fall ill and come back, and the album's title suddenly felt less like marketing than a description of the moment.

Pre-orders and first-week sales

The response was enormous. By 23 September 2021, pre-orders had passed 600,000 copies in six days, and by 7 October the figure had climbed beyond 910,000. When Dimension: Dilemma finally dropped, it sold 501,748 copies on its first day according to Hanteo. The lead single "Tamed-Dashed" topped the Japan Billboard Hot 100 with 386,142 copies sold in its first week, the group's first number one in Japan, and later earned a double platinum certification from the RIAJ.

In the United States, the album broke through in a way Enhypen had not managed before. On 25 October 2021, Dimension: Dilemma debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, beating the group's previous best of number 18 with their earlier release Border: Carnival. By November, sales had crossed 1.1 million copies on Gaon, making this the first million-selling album of Enhypen's career. In December, the Korea Music Content Association certified it as a million-seller.

Song titles and their meanings

The songs themselves carried a sense of risk and reward. "Go Big or Go Home" took its Korean title from the phrase "모 아니면 도" (Mo animyeon do), meaning "all or nothing." "Just a Little Bit" was called "몰랐어" (Mollass-eo), or "I didn't know," while "Blockbuster" used "액션 영화처럼" (Aegsyeon yeonghwacheoreom), "like an action movie." These titles read like a young group naming the stakes of its own moment: go all in, admit what you don't understand, and make it feel like cinema.

The awards followed quickly. "Tamed-Dashed" won on The Show, Show Champion and Music Bank within the same week in October 2021. Dimension: Dilemma took the Initial Chodong Record Award at the Hanteo Music Awards 2021, and in 2022 it received an Album Bonsang at the Golden Disc Awards. A debut album that had nearly been derailed by illness ended up as the foundation of a million-selling run.

Five years on, the record still stands as the moment Enhypen stopped being a promising rookie act and became a group that could move a million copies. The COVID outbreak could have been a lost autumn; instead, the delay sharpened the anticipation, and the album that arrived on 12 October 2021 turned a dilemma into the group's first major victory.
